According to Charles Lamanna, Corporate Vice President of the Power Platforms Group at Microsoft, the company’s low code-no code (LCNC) solutions are anticipated to gain traction in India, with IT and Business Process Management solution providers driving their adoption. The increasing demand for LCNC solutions in India mirrors the global trend, as organizations increasingly embrace digital solutions while grappling with a shortage of technical talent.

LCNC encompasses a suite of tools enabling developers to construct applications through a visual drag-and-drop interface, covering user interfaces, integrations, data management, and logic. Microsoft’s Power Platform, comprising Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate, is a key player in this space. Power Apps, a low-code tool, facilitates process digitization by leveraging pre-built features, business logic, and workflow capabilities.

Charles Lamanna highlighted the impressive IT skills in the Indian market, observing significant interest from system integrators and IT consultancies employing Power Platforms to create solutions globally. The Business Process Management (BPM) sector is also embracing LCNC solutions for automation and efficiency enhancements.

Microsoft’s Power Platforms achieved over $2 billion in annual revenue by April, growing at a rate exceeding 70% year on year. Indian IT service providers and startups generated over $400 million in revenue in the fiscal year 2021 from LCNC software solutions, as per Nasscom.

Notable Indian customers of Microsoft’s LCNC solutions include Piramal Capital & Housing Finance, Mphasis, Royal Enfield, Magicrete, Keventer Agro, and Senco Gold. The global market for low-code development technologies is projected to reach $26.9 billion in 2023, marking a 19.6% increase from 2022, according to Gartner Inc. By 2026, Gartner predicts that citizen developers outside formal IT departments will constitute at least 80% of the user base for low-code development tools, up from 60% in 2021. Lamanna emphasized that within Microsoft Power Platform, 75-80% of users are citizen developers, while 20-25% are professional developers or IT professionals.
